to keep my sanity.
to clear my head.
to challenge myself.
to feel accomplished.
to burn off that piece of cake.
to give myself wiggle room for an extra glass of wine.
to feel stronger.
to enjoy the scenery.
to people watch.
to see how fast I can go.
to see how long I can go.
Sunday was my third time doing an 8 mile run in my 10k training. It started off awesome. These long runs are supposed to be done at an easy pace of 12:30, but this time I decided to go with what felt comfortable to me since usually 12:30 feels just a tad too slow for me. I held about an 11:00 minute pace the whole time until mile 6. That’s when I got one of my lovely heart palpitations.
I’ve had palpitations for as long as I can remember. Whether I’m just sitting on the couch or exercising, one will just pop up out of nowhere. They seem to be less frequent in my adult life, but I’ve always wondered what causes them since it doesn’t seem to matter what I’m doing when they occur. I’ve seen a few different cardiologists about it and all have said not to worry about it. It’s just annoying when it interrupts my workout!
So, needless to say, I walked the last 1.5 miles. As Jon told me, “at least you finished”, but it just sucked since I was having an awesome run. Do you have anything that keeps you from your workouts sometimes?
Has anyone been keeping up with the Olympics? What are your favorite sports to watch? I think this is the first time I’ve been most interested in it. I love watching gymnastics. It just amazes me the way they flip around! And I have fond memories of watching the 1996 women’s team when I was little. Other exciting sports we’ve been watching: Archery, fencing and swimming.
