Foodie Finds June 2017

Boy, do I have some yummy finds for you all this month! Also, let me know what you’d like to see more of…Snacks? Bars? Drinks? Let me know and I’ll keep an eye out!

Dang Chips

All I can say about these is: dang, they are good! Sorry…been waiting a while to say that one. But really, if you have any type of chip addiction it may be best to stay away from these. Because once you pop, you won’t stop. They’re small, crispy and flavorful…I’ll be trying ALL the flavors, please and thank you.

Trader Joe’s Veggie and Flaxseed Tortilla Chips

Speaking of chips these are my new fav tortilla chips. I was intrigued because they’re made with a ton of veggies, which means more nutrients than your average tortilla chip. They are as yummy as they are hearty. They held up great when I made a healthier version of skillet nachos, and are also good for a chips and salsa snack. Oh and duh, guac also.

Cucina & Amore Quinoa Meals

These babies are hunger savers when you’re short on cooking time. It’s precooked quinoa that you heat up in the microwave or on the stove, add the accompanying sauce and boom, you’re ready to chow. I tried both the basil pesto and the roasted red pepper and both are delicious. I paired them with chicken and veggies for a complete meal.

Aloha Bars

I always have bars on hand. I’m not always a big breakfast eater and am usually on the go, so being able to grab something quick, flavorful and nutritious is always a plus. These were new on the shelf at Rollin’ Oats when I spotted them so I had to give them a try. Verdict? They are tasty without being too sweet and I love the punch of protein they give. Great for getting my morning started or after an intense workout.

Vegan Rob’s Brussel Sprout Puffs

So the first time I bought these Jon ended up eating them before I could even try them *sad face*. But I took that as a sign they were really good. Once I got another bag, it was confirmed. These puffs are YUMM-Y. If you’re not into brussels don’t worry…they don’t taste too brussely (they also come in different flavors!)…but they have enough brussel flavor to make us brussel lovers go gaga over them. Great texture and are great as a side for your sandwich or some afternoon munching.

My Favorite Places For Healthy On The Go Meals

One of the major changes I needed to adjust to with my new job was my eating schedule. I’m either at home or I’m out and about going to meetings, events, visiting with coworkers, etc. I’ll often find myself out around lunch time and the inevitable question presents itself…where should I go get lunch?

Thankfully, I’m highly turned off by fast food (i.e. MacDonald’s, Taco Bell, Burger King). Also, thankfully, I’ve found that there are many places where it is easy to stop in and grab a healthy meal.

Here are some of my favorite places to go and grab a quick, healthy meal. Convenient doesn’t have to be bad for you!



This one is probably the post obvious, but who doesn’t love Panera? With an array of soups, sandwiches and salads your taste buds can never get bored. I also love how they list their calories on their menu. I’m a big fan of the You Pick Two and my new fav combo is the Roasted Turkey Avocado Sandwich and the Strawberry Poppyseed Chicken Salad. I highly recommend getting their rewards card for freebies and discounts!

Little Greek


Even though this place is a chain it’s my favorite Greek place in St. Pete (there’s not a lot of options). I haven’t even had their gyro because every time I go I can’t help but get their Greek salad. Their grilled chicken is amazing! It has that grilled taste and really makes the salad.

Chipotle/Tijuana Flats



I’m a burrito bowl lover and both of these locations offer an awesome, fresh tasting burrito bowl (in Tijuana Flat’s case it’s the Noritto Bowl). Rice, beans, meat and salsa. Can’t go wrong with that.



This is a local eatery that serves up sushi at a fast pace. Think of Subway but with sushi. You can choose from one of their signature rolls or create your own. You can even substitute brown rice! They also have lots of healthy side options such as miso soup, seaweed salad and cucumber salad.

Publix/Whole Foods/Fresh Market/Rollin’ Oats

I love Publix for when I want a freshly made wrap. It’s also easy to grab healthy snacks like fruit bowls, veggies, etc. Whole Foods has an awesome (albeit costly) salad bar and I love that I can grab a pre made juice/smoothie. Fresh Market also has freshly made sandwiches, salads, sides and sushi already ready to grab and go. Rollin’ Oats is one of my favorite grocery stores in St. Pete. They also have a grab and go area with freshly made sandwiches and salads. Or you can order off their menu at their cafĂ©. I also love getting a fresh juice or smoothie here as well.

Walkathon Preparation and “Take Out” Meals

It has been a crazy busy week so far!

Monday felt like it would never end. After work I rushed home to change and grabbed Maddie to accompany me on errands. She had been alone all day and I felt bad leaving her again.

First stop was Big Fish Co. to pick up my team t-shirts for this weekend’s Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon. Love how they came out! I’ve ordered shirts from Big Fish before and they always do a great job. There are probably cheaper places, but their service is great and they didn’t charge that much extra to create a graphic for me.

I felt bad that we wouldn’t make it to the dog park (we try to take Maddie every day), but then I remembered we were near Crescent Lake Park and they have a dog park. So we stopped by there and Maddie got her play time in. The dog park was much smaller than our usual one, but there were lots of great dogs that Maddie enjoyed playing with and the people were really nice too. Win!

Yesterday I rushed out of the house again to get to Beak’s Old Florida to pre register for the Walkathon. I did not want to deal with any long lines or chaos the morning of the event. The staff from Southeastern Guide Dogs were super nice and registering was easy peasy. I got my Walkathon t-shirt and even a bandana for Maddie!

There was also a furry staff member there as well!

This is Petey, one of their guide dogs in training…how cute is he? When I bent down to pet him he immediately put his paws on my shoulders and licked my face all over. I die.


When I got home I got to work on putting the finishing touches on my Walkathon team goodie bags.


Homemade dog treats! I used Marta Stewart’s Apple Cheddar Dog Biscuit recipe. They are Maddie approved and I sold some at a little fundraiser we had in the beginning of the month and they went like hot cakes.

I also made a healthy treat for the people as well. I followed the base of Fitnessista’s Amazeball recipe, but doubled it and added dried dates and shredded coconut.

I just love these little bags I found. The designs are so cute and I’m a sucker for anything bright and colorful. Found these for $2 each at Micheal’s.

Inside each bag are our team t-shirts, bandanas I had made for each team member bringing their dog, homemade dog treats, homemade protein bites, the recipes for both and instructions for Saturday. Can’t wait to hand these off to my team!

Because I’ve been so busy this week I have not had the time or energy to make myself dinner. Luckily, there are a few places in St. Pete, where you can grab healthy, freshly made prepared food.

Monday it was Rollin’ Oats. They always have a variety of meal items in their cafe and change up what they offer every week or so.

Salmon cakes, beet quinoa salad and kale salad.

Last night was Fresh Market. Since I’ve seen them squeeze mac and cheese out of a plastic bag I know that they don’t necessarily make all their food items on location. But their stuff still tastes pretty darn good. And they have an awesome selection of healthy soups, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, etc. Side note: Fresh Market is the Target of grocery stores. I actually made it out of there yesterday with just the items I came in for. I was tempted by a plethora of items, but held back!

And of course there is now Fitlife Foods.

I definitely want to get back to making myself healthy dinners when Jon is working. I like making something where there will be leftovers throughout the week (saves $). But I like knowing that if I need a healthy, tasty meal, there are excellent places to go.
